{"id":5014,"date":"2025-08-28T20:57:34","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T19:57:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mrion.pl\/novosti\/5010\/"},"modified":"2025-09-07T21:02:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T20:02:44","slug":"5010","status":"publish","type":"novosti","link":"https:\/\/mrion.pl\/en\/novosti\/5010\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s aide supported the independence of monetary policy despite his own ambitions at the Federal Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The chief advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, who is on the short list of candidates for the next Federal Reserve (Fed) chair, said on Sunday that the central bank should be \u201ccompletely independent from political influence,\u201d including from Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would say 100% that Federal Reserve monetary policy must be completely independent from political influence, including President Trump,\u201d White House National Economic Council director Kevin Hassett said on CBS News\u2019 <em>Face the Nation<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen countries that allowed their leaders to control central banks, and the result is usually inflation and suffering for consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s repeated demands for the Fed to cut rates immediately and his frequent criticisms of Fed Chair Jerome Powell have raised questions about the bank\u2019s ability to set interest rate policy independently of politicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, Trump tried to fire Fed Chair Lisa Cook, who filed a lawsuit to challenge her dismissal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Powell\u2019s term as Fed chair ends in May 2026. The short list of candidates for his successor, proposed by Trump, includes Hassett, former Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, and current Fed Board member Christopher Waller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI currently have no plan to reform the Fed. I\u2019m just happy to do my job,\u201d Hassett said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday, he supported Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen\u2019s call to review Fed powers, including its ability to set interest rates, and said he is ready to implement the Treasury Secretary\u2019s vision, without providing details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump stated that issues regarding Cook\u2019s real estate mortgages, which are under criminal investigation, are sufficient grounds for her dismissal.
